Description
Longford’s racing circuit in Tasmania operated from 1953 to 1968 and became one of Australia’s most iconic road courses, famed for its high speeds along the Flying Mile, its railway viaduct, and South Esk river crossing. It attracted top international talent, including triple World Champion Sir Jack Brabham, who claimed multiple wins there, along with Jim Clark and Sir Jackie Stewart. Local hero John Youl became a crowd favourite, earning podiums in multiple events. New Zealand’s Chris Amon, driving a Ferrari 330P4, set the lap record of 2:12.6 at the final meeting in March 1968, with an average speed of 196.7kmh over the 7.24km circuit. This remained the fastest speed for any Australian road racing circuit until 1987. These bottles commemorate: Sir Jackie Stewart (green 3) on Long Bridge, Chris Amon (red 4) near Longford Viaduct, Sir Jack Brabham (green 4) on corner of Flying Mile.
